So I backtracked, I guess? well I know what I did, dinner wasn't exactly the chicken salad I was supposed to eat. Plus there was dessert. and.. well, let's not get into it. I do have a feeling though, that this has more to do about being bloated than having gained weight. I guess we will see how week two develops, I had hoped for more tangible results this week, but well.. I have been making a "few" modifications, like not completely abandoning the Coca Cola, which is my favorite food in the entire world. I know we are all familiar with the gaining weight after one meal, but I did behave properly the rest of the day. It brings me back to the times (not so long ago) when I thought that if I did not follow the diet regimen TO THE LETTER, I had failed. Took me years to realize I fail if I stop trying to release those extra pounds. |

The criteria for diagnosis of obesity is so often that of weight alone. It strikes me that a far more diverse diagnostic tool for such an emotive label is now required. - Length of time of weight gain
- Attitudes and habits with food
- Amount of daily physical activity
- Recent incapacity leading to reduced physical activity
- Age in relationship to the menopause
- Type and amount of food normally consumed per day
The reason for my concern is that the label of 'Obesity' is such an emotive one. It can devastate and demotivate rather than inspire someone to change their ways. |

On the bright side, week 1 is almost over. I have not made it that far in a LONG time. I was dissapointed today because yesterday I ate exactly what I was supposed to and felt so hungry, yet did not lose any weight, not even a .1. Plus according to the diet software I've been using, I had finally made one day with net calories (meaning I ate below what I was supposed to). SO much for that. I know, I should be thankful I've lost 2.2 pounds so far and did not gain anything. And I know I should not be weighing myself every day but once a week. But I need some reassurance that what I am doing is providing results. I need that quick fix or I am afraid I will backtrack. On another thought, yesterday I mentioned my progress to the receptionist at work, and she said I should drink water before breakfast. Tepid water. I told her I was drinking water while I fixed breakfast but it has ice on it. She is of the philosophy that cold water makes you fat, which I think is absolutely ridiculous. Water is water no matter what state it is in. But I've known people that are extremely adamant about this. |

I know that heading sounds ridiculous, but it is the truth. My trash smells kinda sweet. Must be the cantaloupe. I guess it does matter what you put inside something, like your body. If my trash smells sweeter, I guess eventually I too will smell sweet. Why does it matter? There are things you read, or hear or the Doctor tells you but you still ignore them, until you actually have palpable proof, and even then you will ignore it. Yesterday I saw a rerun of the Oprah Show where Dr. Oz talked about more calcium intake equaling more weigh loss. They also showed some things that turned out to be myths, like detox programs. |

Still week 1, when will this be over.. I am a bit cranky, but I lost .4 pounds and that is so important. I love those digital scales, they give me hope. So yesterday was a good day, I felt I ate too much (a first for me), but that was probably because I made a small substitution. One of the meals calls for an egg.. it can be cooked any way you want it. So I had bumped into Jessica Seinfeld's book, Deceptively Delicious, which enhances day to day foods to "hide" veggies and fruits into meals without freaking out the kids. Well, I am no kid, but I hate certain vegetables - ok, maybe I hate ALL vegetables. Like cauliflower. So I used her recipe for scrambled eggs, with the cauliflower puree. It was OK, not fabulous, but edible, and halfway through it I forgot it had a vegetable in it. I will try more of the recipes, specially the breading for chicken or fish, with spinach or broccoli on it. |
